Media's barrier to kids growing up to be how they want to be.
My theme for the El Anatsui barriers and walls project is how the media makes alot of kids believe they are supposed to be muscular and beautiful and perfect and that most people look like that. The media does this by putting up people who look like they have perfect bodies in their adds, most of the time if not all these peoples images have been edited to make them look better. Also through the media countless companies sell weight loss drugs, weight loss machines, gym member ships and diet foods. There are also multiple TV shows that promote people being "beautiful" like Americas next top model and the biggest loser and similar shows.
I thought of this theme because in my Anthropology class we were discussing the effects of media on youths and how they target specific demographics and how the media also subconsciously pushes kids to conform to the ideal look.

MixTapes

The track has about 47 different songs mixed and cut together so that they flow together amazingly and so that the samples complement each other.

El Anatsui, Sculpturist extraordinaire

El Anatsui, a Highly skilled sculpturist and professor born 1944 in Anyako, Ghana. Anatsui studied at the College of Art and University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. Anatsui started teaching at the University of Nigeria in 1975. Anatsui has done many pieces of sculpture with wood and clay but his most recent installations have been giant cloth like designs made from metal scraps and discarded bottle caps. Although it is not his main focus El makes a strong stand for how anyone can recycle in many ways.
El Anatsui's sculptures have strong use of line and emphasis on different parts of his works but he makes them well balanced so that having emphasis on one area of his sculpture doesn't subtract from the rest. There is a strong sense of movement within his sculptures with all the colors that guide your eyes around his sculptures. Movement can be best seen in my opinion in his work Mammoth crowd series I which can be seen here.

Some of El's major concerns are the erosion of many indigenous African cultures that are majorly disintegrated by the western world. I find Anatsui's pieces of sculpture interesting and bold, hearing about a sculpture made out of bottle caps would probably just make most people think that the artist is second rate, but i find that any artist that can take something so simple and make it something so beautiful deserves true recognition and attention.

SHAZAAAMMMMM

Hope You like it!
Heres a lil' blurb about my art work,
My artwork is meant to be a visual representation of the Lakeshore area. I chose bright and vibrant colours to show the creativity and imagination of any of the people around the Lakeshore area and some of the beautiful arts u can see in the area ( murals etc. ). The trees and multi coloured plants on the right are representing the Greenery down by the lake and how lakeshore is a very calm and beautiful place in areas. The large orange cylinder shape with spirals on the top is representing the campbells soup factory which represents the industries around lakeshore and how they contribute to making supplies for the whole city. This is my design for a skateboard and what it represents.

Canadian Designer poster - Moshe Safdie

This is my poster of a Canadian Designer, Moshe Safdie for my Cyber Arts class.
Moshe Safdie is great Architect. He's Designed many different buildings and monuments. Moshe Safdie likes using large curves and smooth textural designs, allot of his buildings are very curvaceous and are largely covered in glass. He likes to surround his buildings in lots of trees and plant life and it goes nice with the buildings.
Sorry if the text is too small to read, please just click on the image and it will be easy to read.
